Information management support for CARE COs

Damien Brosnan: Information Management Officer

Damien is based in Geneva and is approximately 80% seconded to UNICEF from CARE Australia, during which time he provides field and remote support to WASH Clusters in emergencies .In this month’s newsletter we are profiling Damien’s work and highlighting his role as the information management (IM) helpdesk support officer for CARE.

Before residing in Geneva, Damien worked in both the development and humanitarian spheres, initially in the WASH Cluster and then later the Health Cluster for UNICEF/WHO in Somalia.
As the IM helpdesk support officer for CARE, Damien is ‘on call’ as a technical resource across all CARE COs, not just for WASH projects, but any development or humanitarian projects the CO is developing, implementing or monitoring. Damien is able to provide a range of remote or in-country services to assist COs with their projects, such as:
  • aligning agency reporting systems to that of the Cluster systems, to avoid duplication of data collection
  • developing activity tracking or reporting systems and advise on minimum standards under a cluster, e.g. is sex and age disaggregated data being is being captured?
  • designing maps of a response or a needs assessment
  • advising on mobile data collection opportunities.
While primarily providing remote support, Damien is also available for short-term deployments under the standard cost recovery model for CI Emergency WASH Team.
Damien is looking forward to increasing his engagement with CARE COs on IM issues and can be contacted on damamien@gmail.com.
